review 1: While I really liked the story, I hated the worldview. You know how the Game of Thrones world is utterly without hope or mercy? [Obama would've had to change his campaign slogans.] That's the Norse worldview. You live and then you die. The gods don't care. You might even die if you get in their way. If you die on the battlefield as a warrior, you get to go to Valhalla (sounds a bit like Islam's paradise except that all of the virgins are blonde). But 99.99% of humanity goes to Helheim when they die, trudging through a dusty, gray landscape until Ragnarok. Even then they get to fight on the wrong side. Not good. Explains a lot about how the Vikings saw their world and why they treated it so harshly (and why the advent of Christianity in Scandinavia was a good th... moreing).
review 2: More like 3.5 stars. As other reviewers have said, I thought this was going to be an urban fantasy. The first couple of chapters seemed that way. And then it veered off into an extremely surreal and at times confusing unravelling of reality, which I found pretty depressing, actually. But that's just my tastes. Kudos for making Ragnarok really really creepy. And I never want to die in that world. Plus side, there was no shortage of imagination, it was a fresh take on the myths, and the humour was pretty good. The ending was interesting. A highlight for me was Frigga's castle, oh and Mimir's well too. Minus side, don't think Mist and her sister were drawn all that well; think the dudes of the story fared better. less

An intersting interpretation of the Ragnarok story and what happens to one of the Gods of the Aesir.

There aren't enough books about the Norse gods. Pop culture, in general, needs more vikings.

a colleague recommended this. Attempting to ignore the "harlequin-esque" cover...
