You have to keep your eyes peeled when driving down Lighthouse Road at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. I’ve seen all kinds of creatures by the side of or crossing the road. Black Bears, Bobcats, Raccoons, Opossums, White-tailed Deer, snakes, and turtles. We probably see American Alligators crossing the road most often. They look so ungainly on land. This one was waiting to cross the road but saw us coming and thought better of it.
