review 1: 5 Favorite Stars! I cannot even begin to express how much I loved this story. When I got to 90% and I realized it was almost over, I was actually very sad. I seriously bonded with the characters and it was like saying good bye to very good friends. This is the story of Charlotte "Charley" Parkhust (1812 -1879). Wells Fargo stage coach driver and so much more.My enjoyment was made even more complete by the narration of Robin Weigert. She is absolutely awesome. I highly recommend this book. (I envy those of you who have yet to have this experience.)LOL
review 2: Well...I can't rate this book since I could not finish it; 3/4ths of the way in, the pages became a mess due to poor or non-existent editing. After page 157 is page 135, and then page 56 (again), and so o
... moren. Also, I feel like I fell for an advertising scam with this one. Touted as an award-winning western, historical fiction, based on the story of a female who was a "male" stage coach driver in the mid-1800s (stage coach drivers were called "whips"), it was really a romance novel with a tiny smattering of history thrown in about every 70 pages or so. I'll be returning it since it's unreadable with the pagination problem, and I won't be replacing it since its awards for "best western" novel must have come from the romance writers of America. less
