review 1: This was my first Edward Marston book and I don't know if this is typical of his books. It was a good story but a little stodgy. The ending was a little disappointing as I felt as if information had been left out in terms of the mystery. Agatha Christie tends to do this too. So maybe it is a " British " thing. All that being said I'm giving it a four and reading another one of his books to see if I don't think better of him.
review 2: I saw some of the author's books in the library so thought I would give them a try. This is apparently the first in a series about a couple of London police detectives during the First World War. I did not like the author's writing style of lots of short sentences and to me the characters never came alive. The author tried to m... moreake some points about homophobia, anti-semitism and the role of women in society but I did wonder if this book was really aimed at younger readers almost as a lesson. less
