Veracity Hero of the month (Oct) : Colin Kaepernick
Colin Rand Kaepernick was born on November 3,1987. At 29 years old he has already completed so much. In 2016 Kaepernick made the bold move of sitting down during the preseason national anthem. Kaepernick was quoted saying “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. ” He continued to sit until around the ending of the 2016 season after speaking to former NFL player and US military Veteran Nate Boyer. He asked Nate Boyer how he could protest without disrespecting the military men and women who have fought for this country. Boyer advised Kaepernick to kneel instead of sit because he believed sitting was very disrespectful. Kaepernick started being ridiculed by NFL fans, and announcers. Boomer Eison called Kaepernick ” an embarrassment to the NFL”, and anonymous Executive called him a “traitor “,and former coach of the Chicago Bears Mike Ditka said that Kaepernick should get the hell out if he doesn’t like our country. With all the hate and even death threats Kaepernick still protested for the people, he became a voice for the voiceless, even veterans got behind the movement by showing support through the hash tag VETERANS FOR KAEPERNICK. People took notice to the protesting but failed to realize the reasoning and his philanthropic efforts. Colin Kaepernick made a pledge to donate 1 million dollars back in 2016 over the course of 10 months, last time I checked he was 200k away from fulfilling his pledge. He stood outside a parole office in New York, just so he could give suits to men who served their time and seeking to start a new. He donated his gigantic sneaker collection to the homeless. He donated all the proceeds from his Jersey sales (2016 top selling Jersey) to charities, and it doesn’t stop there. He has also spoken at schools amongst other things teaching the youth that no matter what race or religion you are you matter. Colin Kaepernick has inspired the 2017 movement across sports all around the world. They’ve kneeled in Germany. They’ve kneeled in women sports. They’ve kneeled during live performances ,even in school. Though he has been black balled from The NFL Colin Kaepernick shines brighter than ever. Kaepernick we stand with you in solidarity because you kneeled for us!
