I have traveled in Hoi An twice, once 2 years ago and once early this year. And of course, there will be 3rd and 4th times. There are 2 things that keep me in love with this little town: tranquil ambiance and its rich life of tea & coffee culture. It is not like in Hanoi or Saigon when we hardly find any “quiet-enough” coffee house for chilling. Here people are getting to those places for bonding and hooking up with friends. I heard kids noise, talking sound and background music fighting each other for dominance blah blah…
So, travelling to Hoi An is a great chance of mine to discover the other life of tea and coffee. And my standard for choosing top favorite tea and coffee shops is quite clear: tranquil (but not deadly quiet), beautiful decoration and the “old day” vibe. Then, I feel like those 3 places somewhat meet my expectation. Let’s get started!!!
Hoi An Roastery – espresso and coffee houseIt is a very famous coffee chain in town and containing 6 different branches only in this little Hoi An (as far as I know, the center Hoi An is only around 60 km2). Of course, not all of the branches can meet my criteria when the inner ones are always packed with tourists. The Roaster Temple (685 Hai Ba Trung, Hoi An) is my cup of tea when it located at the far most “outskirt” area of this town, right at the entrance. When I walked into this place, there were just couples of guests on the 1st floor, the 2nd was completely vacant and quiet huzzah. We move around to capture some little corners and luckily the staffs were not hovering around to stare at you with “investigating” look like some other coffee shops I’ve been to (love that!!!)
Looking up to the balcony excuse my photo quality because of the low lightThe architecture fits perfectly with the theme of Hoian. And coffee bean is described to be derived from local farms in Da Lat and roasted directly in Hoi An. My choice was coconut iced coffee. Basically, it was not over-sweet for me but one minus point is that ices melted quite fast and in the end, I hardly felt any of coffee flavor.

Red lanterns hanging on New Year’s pole at the rooftopThis is one of the most famous places for wedding photo shoots in Hoi An with its signature rooftop looking down to ranges of rustic roof tiles. I unintentionally bumped into this place and felt in love right away with its cozy ambiance. The first floor is occupied by a souvenir shop and from the 2nd floor on is the place for dining and coffee. The rooftop and terraces were filled quite fast with foreign customers; however, the noise was acceptable and did not affect me that much. Enjoying the night view with thousands of lantern down the streets was overexcited for me.
Reaching outAddress: 131 Trần Phú, Sơn Phong, Hội An, Quảng Nam
Last but not least guys! You have to visit this place, I swear on my belly fat that you would not be disappointed. We hooked into Reaching out on the sunniest day of Hoi An, my arms got burned and I felt exhausted af after riding bikes for like 2 hours under the sun. And this place welcomed me with cooling air and an authentic Vietnamese decoration from the tea cabinet, antique dishes to the rustic and signature wooden bed of a northern village.
Their menu also brought me back to the old Vietnamese tea house with green tea, herbal tea, and Oolong. Everything was so classic but brought to another level with sets of tea accessories, what makes it more like a feudal tea party. We had a set of organic green tea. A light bitterness mixing with the refreshing vibe of tea leaves did cool off my body and all I want just to lay down the wooden bed and have a quick nap.
One more reason to love, this place is the heaven of silence. All of the staffs here are deaf or muted, they communicate with mini wooden sticks like mahjong and pencils. We will write down our orders on that sticks like more ice, sugar, sweets, or ask for a bill,.. amazing and lovely!
Tea set and mini “order” sticks with pencilThere are more to go with coffee and tea in Hoian, next time I will try Cocobana probably (be aware of its opening time, I missed once*cry*)
