Immersive installation based on Japan’s Naruto whirlpools – teamLAB

_
The tokyo-based collective teamLAB has unveiled its latest installation “Moving Creates Vortices and Vortices Create Movement”. The installation is designed to appear like the Naruto whirlpools which occur along the Shikoku coast of the Naruto Strait, and are created by the large volumes of water moving between the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean.

The interactive installation is intended to demonstrates the ability of humans to change the course of nature. When a person moves in the space, a force is applied in that direction, where a flow occurs. When a fast flow occurs, it creates a vortex.

The exhibition will run as part of the National Gallery of Victoria Triennial in Melbourne, Australia until April 15, 2018.
