review 1: A fun, fast paced read with a fun protagonist. This book has a bit of a steam-punk feel and a bit of a Pulp feel. In Boston in 1890 people are disappearing in a sinister string of attacks. The mysterious Smith uses cutting edge (for the times) gadgets and elliptical problem solving to unravel the mystery. But the attacks are part of a deeper mystery that is only hinted at. Smith and his lovely assistant Miss Malone are clearly in for further adventures. I liked this one enough that I'll probably try the next one as well.
