Ingenue

Here is another of those two-sentence stories with poetry added. I’m thinking of them as “Minuscule” and quick to read.

Read the first Minuscule, the explanation of why I wrote it and got started on this idea, and search under the category Fiction/Poetry Combination for others in the series.

Ingenue

Apartment building, four stories plus attic, one locked door in the basement, key lost or stolen or disappeared years ago, my very complicated past gone with it. Well, I’m a nice old lady now, coming to the final scenes before I step offstage, I guess, but I’ll tell you it’s a hard choice, a very hard choice, between the idea of calling a locksmith and finally taking my bows, or hiring a bricklayer with a soft spot for colored mortar and Flemish bond, though of course then I’d have to go on letting everyone think I was never anything but an amateur player after all.

Taking a last bow
the actor exits the stage
still the enigma
