review 1: This is such a human book. I almost gave it 5 stars, just to counteract all the reviewers that think the main character is too "whiny". Personally I felt all the characters and their reactions to circumstances were extremely realistic. I think there's a certain subset of superhero fans that just don't want characters to exhibit any emotion besides arrogance, infatuation, grief, or rage. But when I read SF/F of any kind, I want the characters to be people, first and foremost. People feel all sorts of things, all the time, and have all sorts of issues with their family and friends, all the time. Is Celia kind of neurotic? Sure, but so would you be if you'd gone through what she had. I recognized most of the people I know in her internal monologues. I also thought Captain Oly... morempus had exactly the personality you'd expect from most men if they'd been so powerful when they were teenagers. But my favorite character by far was Dr. Mentis.The story was also very enjoyable, though in the end I withheld the fifth star because there were a couple plot points that were a bit cliche and predictable. But overall, a great read.
review 2: A superhero book. I liked it!Celia has two superhero parents who save the city on an almost daily basis. Celia has no superpowers....or does she?She has cut herself off from her folks, rebellious as a teenager and disapproving as only they can be.Now she is 25 and is forced to join forces with them.This is part detective story, part superhero, all human emotions book. You cheer for the good guys. You don't quite hate the bad guys but want to understand their motivations better. It all wraps up nicely and also leaves room for more. I would like to read more if this ever had a sequel. less
