Day 16 of 2018: simple…easy…not needing to be a major decision.
Sitting at work, waiting for the doors to open to the public, drinking my coffee, I am thinking about how my job is not that hard. Many people think it’s hard working with the customer service aspect and the variety of tasks needing to be done, but it’s not.
Look at this coffee. Yes, it’s Starbucks but that’s only because that was on the drive this morning. If I had passed Dunkin donuts, it would be their cup. The important thing is what’s inside the cup… black coffee.
Today, I chose not one of the fancy, five ingredients, loaded with sugar syrup or flavors, just the standard original Pike’s Place coffee. When asked if I wanted any room to add cream or sugar, I said no, I’ll take it black.
See I’m have come to realize that there really is no need for all of that extra additions. If a coffee bean is good, then the drink brewed from the bean will be good. If a tea leaf is grown well, then the drink brewed from the leaf will be good. Adding milk and/or sugar just doesn’t enhance the experience of a nice hot beverage.
Why complicate things when it doesn’t have to be?
So sitting here, I begin thinking about things around me. Why is there so many things around me that have to be made into such complicated things?
Why can’t things be simpler?
Decisions, at work or at home, do not have to be a team event. Decisions do not have to get everyone’s opinion. Decisions do not have to be based on what was done in the past.
So just like this simple, black no nonsense cup of coffee, I have decided to make my life simpler. I do not need fancy 20 ingredients in my food. If it’s healthy and tastes good, it’s done. I do not need some fancy clothes because they are all the rage, if my butt is covered, you are welcome. I do not need a committee to decide on what I want to do in my free time…I can safely evaluate whatever the options are and make the best choice.
Keeping it simple, I have decided, is going to be my new motto…
