Nathaniel Bainbridge is used to hiding, whether it’s concealing his struggles with reading or his forbidden desire for men. Under the thumb of his controlling father, the governor of Primrose Isle, he’s sailing to the fledging colony, where he’ll surrender to a respectable marriage for his family’s financial gain. Then pirates strike and he’s kidnapped for ransom by the Sea Hawk, a legendary villain of the New World.

Bitter and jaded, Hawk harbors futile dreams of leaving the sea for a quiet life, but men like him don’t deserve peace. He has a score to settle with Nathaniel’s father—the very man whose treachery forced him into piracy—and he’s sure Nathaniel is just as contemptible.

Yet as days pass in close quarters, Nathaniel’s feisty spirit and alluring innocence beguile and bewitch. Although Hawk knows he must keep his distance, the desire to teach Nathaniel the pleasure men can share grows uncontrollable. It’s not as though Hawk would ever feel anything for him besides lust…

Nathaniel realizes the fearsome Sea Hawk’s reputation is largely invented, and he sees the lonely man beneath the myth, willingly surrendering to his captor body and soul. As a pirate’s prisoner, he is finally free to be his true self. The crew has been promised the ransom Nathaniel will bring, yet as danger mounts and the time nears to give him up, Hawk’s biggest battle could be with his own heart.

*This review is going to contain a lot of pirates gifs, I do not apologize in advance*

This was a highly anticipated book for me, when I first heard about it, this was pretty much my reaction:

YAS, I was excited. Keira Andrews wrote some of my favorite books, and I was very curious to see how she was going to do this pirate thing, which is a favorite theme of mine, if I wasn’t obvious enough.

I’m glad to report that I wasn’t disappointed at all, this book has everything! Adventure, age-gap, a virgin(!), scorching sexy times, epic love, and of course – pirates. What more could you want?

The story starts with our young MC – Nathaniel – sailing from England with his pregnant sister to start a new life in Primrose Isle, a new colony governed by their father. Their Journey is stopped abruptly when their ship is attacked by pirates. Obviously, the siblings are scared shitless, but they become truly terrified when the captain – Hawk – discovers their identities.

Long time ago, Hawk was betrayed by Nathaniel’s father, and when he finds out that his children are now under his mercy, he decides it’s pay back time

He frees the sister, but takes Nathaniel as his prisoner until his father pays his ransom in a month. At first, Nathaniel is quite frightened by the big bad pirate, after all, Hawk has a bit of a reputation.

But after spending some time together in the Captain’s cabin, Nathaniel fall into lust with the hot older man. He always knew he was attracted to men, but viewed it as a sin and didn’t do anything about his desires. At the beginning, he refuses to surrender to his desires because Hawk is an evil pirate and all that. But as the time goes by, Hawk starts to show him kindness, and Nathaniel discovers that the man is not as bad as he appears to be.

Hawk also discovers that Nathaniel is not the spoiled, fragile man he thought he was, and finds himself charmed by the bold and spirited man. He also discovers that the man is a virgin, and even though he fights the attraction, he can’t deny Nathaniel for long.

Those two had some hot and dirty sex in various locations, and Nathaniel was very, um, eager. Seriously, Hawk created a “monster” when he taught Nathaniel the joys of gay sex, the deflowered virgin couldn’t get enough. For real.

The story’s focus is on our MCs and their love story, but because we are dealing with pirates here, it feels like an epic adventure.

There’re some battles.

Treacherous pirates.

But the main issue is Hawk’s refusing to accept the fact that his feelings for Nathaniel are much more than lust, and that the younger man (18) could really want an “old” (41) jaded man like himself, who could offer him nothing. Nathaniel is more than happy to prove him wrong.

I lovvved this entertaining and romantic story. I’m so glad to finally have a good m/m pirate story in my collection! (If you know of more, DO let me know)
This is going straight to my favorite shelf, and I’ll definitely reread it in the future.
