Synopsis: Once upon a time, the basketball team of Teikō Middle School rose to distinction by demolishing all competition. The regulars of this team became known as the “Generation of Miracles”.
After graduating from middle school, these five stars went to different high schools with top basketball teams. However, a fact few know is that there was another player of the “Generation of Miracles”, the phantom sixth player. This mysterious player is now a freshman at Seirin High, a new school with a powerful, if little-known, team. Now, Tetsuya Kuroko, the sixth member of the “Generation of Miracles”, and Kagami, a naturally talented player who spent most of middle school in America, are aiming to bring Seirin to the top of Japan, taking on Kuroko’s old teammates one by one
Review: So this, this right here, is my absolute favourite sports manga! Trying to put into words how much I love this, without sounding like a massive fangirl, is probably going to be hard but I’m going to try my best anyway.
I picked this one purely by chance a couple of years back, and I fell completely in love with it. It just caught me and I couldn’t stop reading; I think I was in at a place in my life when I needed to read something that was all about pushing forward, and trying your best no matter what. Kuroko’s passion for basketball and his friends always reminds me that it’s a good thing to be passionate, and that it’s always good to want to help your friends.
Another fantastic thing about this manga is the superhuman talents of the Generation of Miracles. I loved the fact that they have these crazy sports related abilities, and it would constantly amaze me what these sixteen year old kids managed to pull off! The whole thing is just so fantastic from Akashi’s emperors eye to Kagami and Aomine entering the zone, these game changing abilities are just so much fun and honestly make the manga for me.
Kuroko is one of my favourite manga characters. He’s just so cute and funny, his lack of presence is a running joke throughout the manga, and it never fails to be funny when he manages to scare any one of his teammates. He’s also so motivated it’s incredible, after reading this you’ll honestly want to form your own basketball team and make it to nationals. His dedication to his friends and team mates will remind you how much you care for your own friends, or make you want to play a sport just to experience that kind of dedication to one thing; Kuroko’s passion always amazes me, and honestly every time I read it I finish wanting to be better at everything I do.
This manga will always be one of my all time favourites, for me it just can’t be beaten and it never fails to entertain. It’s just so much fun to read, and combines a serious premise with well timed comedy that always manages to get a laugh out of me.
Recommend: Heck yes, but I know that this style of manga isn’t for everyone so please be aware of that
