review 1: Balogh is a favorite if mine. Cornick is a little over the top for me. I've never heard of Milan.The Balogh story was just too far fetched. The money she was paid for a weekend was absurd. A country gentry girl outwitted the cream of society and pulled off pretending to be a courtesan. And, and, and.Balogh's strengths for me are her nice heroes. Good guys. This guy was(?) a good guy, maybe? But, a little lost? I don't know. The heroine just didn't fly at all. Not enough background was given to shore up her ability to deceive. Cornick's story was surprisingly tame in comparison to other works I have read by her. It was a fairly good story. The two main characters played well off of each other and their back and forth manipulation of each other was fun. I enjoyed it, if the ... moreending was a bit trite. Milan is new to me and probably will remain that way. The main reason I buy these compilations is to find new authors to add to my list. She will not be on it. The whole premise is offensive. Her brother is dumb and her suitor is dumber. I would have to go into excruciating detail to explain. I was very disappointed.

Better than the first one. 2,8 stars. This Wicked Gift by Courtney Milan (which is number 0,5 in the Carhart series):It was quite ok. Nice to have as a background whilst reading the next installment. 3 stars. less
