Lantern Cove latest

As some of you may have seen on our Facebook page, the sale was completed and the chalet became ours a couple of weeks ago (hurrah)! We arranged to go to the island the very next day and had a very busy two days there.

On the ferry…

We met with the builder on Saturday just to talk through our plans again; most of it is relatively straightforward, but we needed to check a few details like the layout of the new kitchen. We tried our best to get measurements to work out what furniture will fit where, what size curtains we need and so on. It is the fun part choosing what we want in there but quite difficult too! We have decided we will need to visit the chalet twice more before our first guests; once the new kitchen is in and the work has completed, we will get the bigger furniture and furnishings bought, have most of that delivered and take the rest with us to set it up on our first visit. Once that is all in place, we can see what else we need, what fits where and so on, and then make a second trip to finish it off with the smaller things! Phew!

We also viewed some other chalets that are on for sale – more about that later! In between we took a walk to the nearest beach; it took us just five minutes from the chalet site to the nearest beach. It was cold but the sun was out and there were blue skies so it was lovely; we took some great photographs that we can use on our page. Later on we had fish and chips from Fat Harry’s in Sandown and had an early night.

The closest beach to the site which is a 5 minute walk away

On Sunday we went to the site again and this time met the cleaning company to go over what they will be doing for us. They already clean a few chalets on the site so had some really good information to give us! We then managed to tidy the chalet a bit and cleared the rooms ready for the work to start and then we were on our way to Cowes to catch our ferry. A good, productive weekend!

The site bathed in sunlight

Since then, we have made a trip to a couple of shops and bought crockery, glasses, some bedding…there is so much more to buy however and I have looked at probably every home furnishing shop’s website you can think of! It is all in process though and we have a pretty good idea what we will be buying which is very exciting.

Now for some even more exciting news..we are currently in the process of securing a second chalet on the site! The new chalet will be dog friendly so we can offer a choice. We will be calling that chalet Lantern Bay. Eventually we will re-name our Facebook page and possibly this blog to Lantern Holidays.

So it is all pretty busy at the moment; we have had some bookings which is great news and there is lots to look forward to!

Thanks for reading!

Helen
