Let us show you Fort Leonard Wood

Happy New Year and welcome to the official blog of Fort Leonard Wood!

My name is Amanda and I recently started as a volunteer for the Fort Leonard Wood Public Affairs Office (PAO). When presented with the idea of a blog for local spouses by a local spouse, I immediately fell in love with it. The benefit of this blog being managed by the PAO is the confidence that you are receiving accurate information.

Whether this is your first duty station or your sixth (it’s my third) I’m sure you have many questions about the area and perhaps about the military lifestyle in general.

You have read through every Facebook group and page you could find, read every Google search result to the last letter, and interrogated any friends or family who have been stationed here. You’ve found a lot of information yet you still feel like you know absolutely nothing.

You are not alone. While I was preparing to move here from Fort Carson, Colorado, I struggled to find answers to the questions I had. Fort Leonard Wood can be a bit of a mystery and I aim to change that.

This post has many positive attributes if you know where to look.  For example, if you enjoy outdoor activities the Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) offers 60,000 acres for hunting, canoe rentals, fishing and more. The post also boasts a splash park, two story slide, go-kart track, and a mini golf course at the MWR Rec Plex.

Whether you need to know what resources are available to you through Army Community Service or what attire is appropriate for a military ball, you will find it on this page. I will share my personal experiences (and some mistakes I’ve made along the way!) in hopes that you may experience an easy transition and enjoy your time here at Fort Leonard Wood.

Please feel free to comment with any questions about our posts using the comment section or you can email us at [email protected].

We will be happy to respond and assist you in finding accurate answers to your questions.
