This captured my interest while browsing through the gift shop at the Charles Pinckney (signer of Declaration of Independence) National Historic Site in South Carolina. It’s a barometer! The fluid rises and lowers in the spout according to the changes in atmospheric pressure.I haven’t seen one before so I spent a few minutes scrutinizing it. The weather was fair as the barometer indicates in the picture with the fluid at the bottom of the spout. Fluid up to the top would mean a storm on the way. The ranger at the historic site swears it works. I would love to have this barometer, but the price is way over my budget for a souvenir. It will make a good one though, for someone who can spare a $100 bucks.
