Genre: Comedy, War

There’s no doubt that all of Stanley Kubrick works is a masterpiece of a real movie. It’s become an institution of the fans are very much. But, I just feel annoyed if the figure of Stanley Kubrick isn’t so well known in Indonesia. Fuck that because I love everything all about Stanley Kubrick. Just like this movie that has a dark comedy impression similarly to Lolita. Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb takes on a post-war theme after a cold war in which the film takes in a cold post-war which have a dark comedy impression bring together.

“Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb,” tells about Brig. Gen. Jack D. Ripper (Sterling Hayden) is a commander who has lost his mind so that he commands his troops to attack Russia using nuclear weapons. The reason for commanding his army was ridiculous, simply because it contaminated the drinking water in the United States with Fluoride so that it was as if he thought himself be impotent. Brig. Gen. Jack D. Ripper then ordered all his troops with B-52 bombers to get past the point where they waited for orders from the center and could leave without the president’s confirmation. Meanwhile, a captain of the Royal Air Force’s British air force named Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake (Peter Sellers) assured him that Russia didn’t intend to attack America. On the other side of a room in the Pentagon, Gen. ‘Buck’ Turgidson (George C. Scott) explains to President Merkin Muffley (Peter Sellers) with the temporary situation. Buck persuaded the president to launch more attacks so that the United States could destroy 90% of Russian nuclear weapons before they use them. Hearing the news, Russian Ambassador Alexi de Sadesky (Peter Bull) was shocked to hear it so he had to contact the Prime Minister of Russia first. The Russian prime minister informed them that they would send an ‘apocalypse machine’ that would destroy this world. President Merkin Muffley immediately called Dr. Strangelove (Peter Sellers), a former Nazi member who has a crazy illuminant appearance with Alien Hand Syndrome using a wheelchair. The debate that goes on inside the Pentagon is endless and America that will still bombard Russia be told in this movie.

Don’t feel weird with this movie because it’s like that which happened in this film. Just because of ridiculous reason, Americans were eager to destroy the Russians. First of all, this film is no doubt to win four Oscars in Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Director, and Best Writing in 1965. Moreover, most of these films are so unique that Peter Sellers playing three different characters in one film with different unique characteristics. And all of that, the character he played was very well great and very good to watch. How could a one-person play three different characters in a movie? You can see from a Peter Sellers. He plays three different characters such as Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake, President Merkin Muffley, and Dr. Strangelove. I don’t know what to say about Peter Sellers but I can only be amazed while watching the movie. It’s a fact that Peter Sellers immediately achieved great success along with sparking a major controversy because his acting is considered a moral harassment and promote paedophilia tendency.

The second and also the last is how the film Dr. Strangelove brings together comedy with war genre? It looks impossible to even look absurd and think about? For some people, maybe it could be. I can only smile that sometimes, I don’t understand the comedy and sometimes the comedy makes me laugh out of loud. It is very difficult to understand for people who are unfamiliar with films like this let alone black and white movies because is so hard to accept and to understand for some people who watch it. In fact, the ending that presents in this movie is also very difficult to understand. But, Dr. Strangelove is a masterpiece that shows Stanley Kubrick’s absurd comedy. The film is clearly like mocking and deriding the nuclear cold war that might also be portrayed from current media that we often hear.

Overall, Dr. Strangelove is a comedy masterpiece that will never be forgotten for fans of Stanley Kubrick’s movies. Peter Sellers is a star who managed to portray three different characters in this film. Dr. Strangelove is one of the best comedy movies of all time and is included in the most historic film by the United States Film Registry in 1989.
