My 2017 fab vs. flop

Let’s talk about what products got me buzzing and which completely flat lined…

So, let’s get down to it.

Firstly, can we please discuss the Urban Decay Afterglow Palette

I was extremely optimistic sliding the cardboard box out of its also cardboard cover. I dislike cardboard palettes, although I suppose its more practical to travel with. Aside from that, the packaging is pretty cute pink shade and sturdy, so you know that the product inside are going to be protected.

With Flash Without Flash

The first thing I did was of course swatch all of the shades. These aren’t really shades that I usually wear, and 2 of the 4 looked like they might be too dark for me, but they are flash af none the less. From swatching the shades, I found that they were of a lovely consistency – really creamy and smooth.

However, I will admit, I was expecting to be reaching for sunglasses because the highlight was so blinding. So, when I started applying it onto my face, I felt that my highlight needs had not been fulfilled. I also tried spraying the brush with the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray and I didn’t see any difference.

That being said, it is still a very pretty highlighter palette, and if you’re into a more subtle glow, I think it would be worth giving it a go. It is £27.00 though, which works out at about £6.75 per highlighter. If you’re willing to part will £27.00 of your coin for subtly glowing cheekbones then be my guest, and don’t forget to let me know your opinion of it.

I do really like a lot of Urban Decay’s products, and think that the quality of their products is of a high standard. But overall, I would class the Urban Decay Afterglow Palette as a bit of a flop.

Next up on the chopping block is the Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer.

Picking my shade was a bit of an ordeal as my local Superdrug didn’t have a huge range of the shades which they offer. I was stuck between picking C4 or C5, and finally decided that C5 would probably be the better shade for me, as C4 looked a bit too pink for my more yellow-toned skin. The brand does offer 18 shades in this concealer range, which I think is really great that a drugstore brand is offering such a range of shades, (with a good quality product) for such an affordable price.

I think its extremely difficult to ignore that the product is £4. And I do think it is 100% worth its tiny price tag. I applied it on top of my foundation straight from the dofer applicator and blended it in with a beauty sponge. From looking at it throughout the day, the concealer stayed in place and looked pretty nice after about 8 hours of wear.

Its listed as a full coverage concealer, but I would describe it as more of a medium-full coverage. I wouldn’t describe it as cakey, but its not exactly lightweight (really well explained there mols).

Overall, I would describe the Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer as a fab product

The Benefit Total Moisture Facial Cream.

This has been a firm favourite of mine for a few years now, but only recently have I added it into my (non-existent) skincare routine.

The consistency is quite thick but I apply it at night before I go to bed and I wake up with soft, glowy skin. I have naturally oily skin but I can say that it has improved the quality of my skin after persistent use.

The biggest snag for me is the price tag… you can bag yourself a 48.2g pot of the moisturizer for £33.00 at Debenhams. Granted, you do only need a small amount to cover your face, but I still struggle to part with the cash for it nonetheless.

Overall, I would say that this is a fab product (if you’re willing to pay the dollar for it).

Hope this enlightens you about a couple of products!

Love,

Molly etc
