NEWS: Cast for UK Premiere of Ferdinand von Schirach’s Terror Announced

The Lyric Hammersmith has confirmed casting for the UK premiere production of the play, playing at the theatre from the 14th June. 

This production, directed by Lyric Hammersmith’s Artistic Director Sean Holmes, is set to star Emma Fielding as Prosecuting Counsel Nelson, John Lightbody plays Christian Lauterbach, Forbes Masson as Defence Counsel Biegler, Tanya Moodie plays the Presiding Judge, Shanaya Rafaat as  Franziska Meiser and Ashley Zhangazha plays the pilot on trial, Lars Koch.

A hijacked plane is heading towards a packed football stadium. Ignoring orders to the contrary a fighter pilot shoots the plane down killing 164 people to save 70,000.

Put on trial and charged with murder, the fate of the pilot is in the audience’s hands.

Emma Fielding’s previous stage credits include : The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovary (Liverpool Everyman/Peepolykus); Rapture Blister Burn (Hampstead Theatre); In The Republic of Happiness, Spinning Into Butter (Royal Court); Decade (Headlong) and The King’s Speech (Wyndham’s).

John Lightbody returns to the Lyric Hammersmith following appearances in  Three Sisters (Filter) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Filter, Manchester Royal Exchange, Dublin, Australia). Other credits include Ghost Stories (Duke of York’s Theatre) and Treasure Island (Theatre Royal Haymarket).

Forbes Masson has most recently appeared in Travesties at the Menier Chocolate Factory and the Apollo Theatre. Other credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Theatre Royal Bath); Dr Faustus (Duke of York’s) and  Mr Foote’s Other Leg (Hampstead/Theatre Royal Haymarket).

Also returning to the Lyric Hammersmith, Tanya Moodie’s credits include S: Trouble In Mind (Ustinov); Hamlet (RSC); Joanne (Soho Theatre) and King John (Shakespeare’s Globe).

Shanaya Rafaat has recently appeared in  The White Devil (Shakespeare’s Globe). Other theatre credits include  A Tale of Two Cities (Royal & Derngate/UK tour); Great Expectations (West Yorkshire Playhouse) and Stateless (Tristan Bates Theatre).

Meanwhile, Ashley Zhangazha has appeared on stage in productions of Theatre credits include: The Lottery of Love (Orange Tree); Human Animals; Belong; Truth and Reconciliation (Royal Court) and A Raisin in the Sun (Sheffield Crucible/Eclipse).

The play has been translated by David Tushingham, while the production features designs by Anna Fleischle. Meanwhile, the creative team also features costume design by Loren Elstein, lighting by Joshua Carr and sound by Nick Manning.
