Our 5 favourite baby books

Our kids love our collection of baby books. We’ve collected quite a lot throughout the years (and after 3 children!) but we have a few favourites that are dog-eared and falling apart. Emman and I have memorised each one by heart and have nailed all the requisite voices down.

  • Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
  • A classic for a good reason and has lulled children (and parents alike!) to sleep for generations. We say goodnight to things in our room after reading this – a good way to teach young children names of objects at home.

    2. The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton

Sandra Boynton writes funny and lighthearted books for children and this is one of our favourites about silly animals getting ready to sleep.

    3. Moo Baa La La La by Sandra Boynton

Another Sandra Boynton favourite. Our kids love the different animal sounds and chime in with their own versions of snorts, quacks, oinks and barks.

    4. Owl Babies by Martin Waddell and Patrick Benson

A simple and reassuring story of 3 baby owls who wake up to find their mum gone. They have to wait a while but their mum comes home in the end. We’ve changed the names of the owls to Cruz, Sinta and Pietro, of course.

    5. We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury

Beautifully illustrated, this exciting book takes you on an adventure through a meadow, a river, mud, forest, a snowstorm and a cave.

What baby books do you love to read to your kids?
