review 1: Tore through it--after putting off readings it--reminded me of book where they fly west in a hot air balloon--can't remember what that one is called. Very steam punk. Curiously, I couldn't remember as I was reading it that the main character was a boy. not sure why. even, for a minute,thought Kit was a girl and the crush on Sukey was a lesbian crush. but no. why is that never included in J Fic when there is always hetero crushes? in any case, good.strangely slow paced for a book where some much happens.
review 2: Steampunk for middle grades. Fast-paced story with interesting characters and good build-up for the next book in the series. Definitely fun for boys and girls -- it's got a little bit of everything: mystery, adventure, maps and codes and airships, even... more a little bit of romance. The hardcover is put together beautifully, with gorgeous illustrations and great art on the inside/outside of the dust jacket. Wish more adult books were done as artfully. less
