Paso Robles | Ride With Me

Before we knew about the heat wave that was going to hit California this weekend, my friends and I decided to travel to Central CA to attend the Dynaholics End of Summer Bash.

There was a group ride scheduled to leave San Jose at 9:30am, but due to the many many heat advisories, Sonia, Fernando and I decided to leave earlier to stay cool. We left the Campbell area at 8:15am and stopped for gas in Salinas and King City. By the time we entered into San Miguel and Paso Robles, we were riding in 110+ degree heat. Luckily I had a hydroflask to keep my water cold, because it was dangerously hot and we were all dehydrated.

We dropped off our stuff at our Airbnb in Atascadero, and headed back North to San Miguel for the event.

At the event we got to spend time with Cricket the Boston Terrior, enjoyed tons of booze, a raffle, and a very strange wet t-shirt contest. The event was unfortunately interrupted by a large accident that hurt 6 riders nearby off the 101. Luckily all were ok, minus a few broken bones and road rash.

After the event, we decided to head over to our friend’s closer Airbnb to chill by the lake. It was nearly 11pm at night and the temperatures were still in the high 90’s.

The next morning, we decided to beat the heat and head over to the coast in Morro Bay. To our disappointment, it was still hot near the coast.

So, we decided to take the scenic route back up to Paso Robles on Highway 46 and stopped by a local winery to cool off in much needed air conditioning.

From here, we headed back up to our friend’s Airbnb to jump in the lake. The weather got even crazier than we expected as heavy winds started to take over. We waited out the weather and eventually headed back south to Atascadero for some much needed sleep.

The next morning we decided to head back home early to beat the heat and holiday traffic. Unfortunately, as soon as we got on our bikes to head home, it started raining. The water stopped about an hour or so into our ride, but the clouds remained. I prepped for hot riding, so I was not wearing the right gear for rain or even cold temperatures.

Luckily for us there was no traffic headed home, and I managed to arrive at around 11:30am, despite being pulled over for speeding ~2 miles from home.

All in all, a great Labor Day weekend putting 500 more miles on my bike.
