Since my last post, which was way too long ago, I have been the busiest human I feel like. I also got myself in a rut thinking that no one read my stuff, so all that together meant I never wrote. I did think about it a lot, I actually have a whole page of things I want to write about.
I started off 2018 at Passion conference in Atlanta Georgia, and it hit me how much I miss blogging and writing. Since I started 2018 there, at Passion, being fully engulfed in The Word I wanted my first post of the year to be about the Passion conference. So here are some of my favorite things I got from the conference and my thoughts on them.
LEVI LUSKO
The more you look forward to the next world, the less you need from this world.
-Levi
Levi was the very first speaker of the entire conference and he gave one of my favorite sermons. I could go on and on about what he talked about, or I could just do an entire blog post about everything I heard and learned from that message.
{LESS OF THIS WORLD}
That is exactly what I need for 2018. We can easily get caught up in daily life and think “what can this world do for me?” “What can I get out of this world?” “Why am I having pain in this world?”
This world can’t do anything for us, it’s fleeting, perishing, temporary, and all seen. Focusing on His eternal unseen glory and then the easier it is to stand the pain of this world. I mean I don’t know about you but this world can come with a lot of pain and if we didn’t have that eternal home with a Heavenly Father it would be hard to bare the weight of this world.
Can our souls handle the weight of that? The weight of living this life solely for His glory? Only if we are rooted deeply in our simple faith can we handle the weight of this world.
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
II Corinthians 4:16-18
JOHN PIPER
If you want to have a super real soul quenching message, listen to John Piper. He basically talked all about God’s glory, and I really don’t even know where to start with what all he had to say. Because honestly it was so much information.
Authentic, Christ-exalting love for people is the overflow of joy and love IN God
-John
John kept saying “joy, delight, enjoy, satisfy, and rejoice”. These are all things that come when we realize His glory and power.
The glory of God is the greatest reality in the universe.
I think this can easily go back to what Levi was saying. Because when we realize His glory on earth we can look forward to seeing His glory even more in heaven.
CHRISTINE CAINE
Don’t hold a conversation with the enemy
-Christine
I overthink, I over analyze, I worry, I freak out, all of that is just a conversation with the enemy. When Christine said “don’t hold a conversation with the enemy” I told myself “Casady, girl, you do that every time you overthink one little tiny thing!”
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Romans 10:17
We need to stop listening to the enemy and start listening to our faith in Jesus Christ, because only what He says about us is truth.
We are children, we are His people, we are His Sheep, we are chosen, and we are His glory.
LOUIE GIGLIO
The nature of the Gospel is to explode in the hearts of many
-Louie
Louie talked about our pasts, our purpose, the Gospel, being arrows in the hands of God, the finished work of the cross, and the unfinished work of the church. If you’ve never heard Louie preach you’ve got to go listen to a podcast of one of his sermons! He is sooo good!
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
II Corinthians 5:21
There is no longer any attempts at perfecting ourselves for Christ. This life is to be lived because of the cross, because life is found in the cross. And only in Jesus is when we find that life through the cross is when He will prepare us for a life well lived in Christ alone. Without Christ guiding our lives let’s face it we’d be a total wreck, or at least I know I would.
We are flaming arrows because of the finished work on the wooden cross. Since that work is finished now our purpose is the unfinished work of the church and make sure every person on earth hears about that finished work on the cross.
GRIP. DRAW. ANCHOR. AIM. RELEASE.Lord grip us with your Gospel truth, Father draw us closer to you, Savior anchor us in your love, Jesus aim us in the direction of your will, and Christ release us into the world to finish your work!
PRISCILLA SHIRER
There is always something you can’t see influencing what you can see
-Priscilla
Know your strength strictly comes from God, that’s what I would say Priscilla had to say. The enemy is out to get us, he’s got a plan, he’s watching, he is trying to influence our life, he’s trying to shimmy in and get a tight grip on our reality. But the reality is, our God is right beside us, giving us the kind of strength only He can give. So guard yourself with prayer (part of the armor of God at Priscilla says) and the truth that is Jesus Christ.
So when we feel the enemy creeping up trying to take hold of this powerful life God has given us, know your strength. Know that even he, the enemy, knows how much power we have when we have Christ living within us.
“Finally, my brother, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
Ephesians 6:10
