review 1: This book is called Bake Sale and is by Sara Varon. The book is a graphic novel and would be good for kindergarten through 2nd grade. the book is a bit lengthy so the teacher should probably split it up while reading it. At first, reading this book, I was unsure what to think. The book is about a cupcake owing a bakery, but once I started reading it turned out to be a book with a great message. The plot of the story is Cupcake owns a bakery called "Sweet Tooth Bakery." Cupcake becomes very sad, and starts to get very bored selling the same old items each day. Cupcakes best friend is Eggplant, who has an aunt who lives in Turkey, and that he will be going to visit her. Eggplants aunts partner is Turkish Delight, who is very good a baking. Cupcake wants to go along on the tr... moreip to visit Turkish Delight, and ask her for some backing tips. To earn the money he needs for the trip, Cupcake has to give up one of his favorite things, drumming in a band, so that he can sell these bake goods to raise money. He even opens the bakery early, and closes late to invite more costumers to come. Cupcake finally raises enough money and is very excited to go when a problem occurs, and Eggplant looses his own money. Because Cupcake is a good friend, he gives Eggplant his money. In the end, Cupcake and Eggplant work together toward winning a plane trip for two anywhere in the world in a baking contest. This book had a great message about friends helping friends and working together. For class, I think this would be an Excellent story to act out in the classroom. Each student could play a different part, and the students would have fun while learning about friendship. The book also has recipes in it that would be fun to make with the students or even have the teacher make and the students taste test. The pictures were fun and full of color, and the book was just a fun, good read! Overall I gave this book 4 stars!
review 2: What an odd little book. I read it with my 9 year old and 6 year old, and there was questions about why a cupcake was eating French Fries, and why did he put blueberry on his head. I think it was the hidden humor seen through my children's eyes that made me love this little story so much. You'll either love it, or scratch your head and wonder what you just spent reading for 30 minutes. All I can say is that he better win those tickets! less
