It’s a little late, but I just finished Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe by Melissa De La Cruz. I really enjoyed this one. At first I wasn’t sure because it started off a little weird, or unusual. I’ve read my share of takes on Pride and Prejudice. Some good and some not so good.
We meet Darcy Fitzwilliam. A woman on a mission. She’s woman, hear her roar. So just by the name, you can tell what role she will play. The version of Elizabeth Bennet? That would be Luke Bennet. I think that’s that what threw me off at first. But, hey. I’m going to stick through it and keep reading.
After a couple chapters it reminded me of a Hallmark movie. In fact, I wouldn’t mind seeing this story on screen.
Darcy comes back to Pemberley, Ohio. It’s been eight years since she’s been back. Despite, her father’s wishes. She moved to New York where she became a success. Coming back to Ohio, she catches up with her best friend Bingley. His love interest? Jim Bennet.
There are Pride and Prejudice plots in the story with more of a modern twist. You have the George Wickham type character, Carl. There is the Collins character. I did find it funny that it was a female version, and the first name was Charlotte. Instead of sisters for Bennet, there are brothers. Interesting take, which I won’t go into so you don’t get spoiled. Darcy does have her siblings, but that was a little different from the sibling we are used to seeing, aka Georgiana. I don’t want to get into that also due to spoilers.
I gave it four stars. If you are a Hallmark movie fan. You’ll love this. If you are a Jane Austen fan? Maybe, maybe not. It’s hard to say. You have your die hard fans who I could see not caring for it. Otherwise, I think you should check it out.
