Psalm 90

Imagine yourself with a spoon and a pool containing all the water of all the oceans. You decide to empty the pool one spoon at a time, waiting a million years between spoonfuls. When the pool is empty you decide to fill it back in. That amount of time is not the blink of an eye to God.

God has always been.

God will always be.

God is in the here and now.

In God’s time a thousand years is a day.

In God’s time our life is but an moment.

We burn with the dawn,

And burn out with the moon.

We are but a moment in time.

Seventy years for most of us.

Eighty for a lucky few.

Then nothing more.

Teach us how short life is, God.

Fill us each sunrise

So that we may appreciate each day as a gift.

Let us be your servants

And see your wondrous work

Let our great grand children know you.

Stay with us, God

Stay with us forever.

Amen
