Review: Eeny Meeny

Eeny Meeny – M J Arlidge

Synopsis

Two people are abducted, imprisoned, and left with a gun. As hunger and thirst set in, only one walks away alive.

It’s a game more twisted than any Detective Helen Grace has ever seen. If she hadn’t spoken with the shattered survivors herself, she almost wouldn’t believe them.

Helen is familiar with the dark sides of human nature, including her own, but this case—with its seemingly random victims—has her baffled. But as more people go missing, nothing will be more terrifying than when it all starts making sense…

My Thoughts

This book was brilliant, I loved the plot and the characters so much, mainly the character of Helen Grace but the others were as vital to the story as she was and it all made for a very twisty read. The story isn’t exactly graphic but it definitely doesn’t make for the most comfortable read in some places. The way the antagonist goes about their killing is very interesting and makes for a few very intriguing plot twists that you may have suspected but still shock you when they do come to fruition.

Helen Grace is an amazingly complex leading lady and has great supporting characters but it is Helen that  I cared most about. The others, such as Charlie and Mark, are great characters but I didn’t really for any emotional attachment to them even though I feel that I should have because of where the plot led. But throughout the entire book you feel yourself rooting the victims (and occasionally taking sides) and rooting for Helen as she hunts down the person playing these sadistic games which gives and slight air of Saw to the story and most people know how disturbing the plots of saw only these books are far less graphic but still make you wonder about the antagonist mental stability.
