Hey guys! Our exams are already finished so I am now back with another book-related post.
Let me start off by saying that I actually have no intention of doing a book review on Matched. Since I’m just starting in this blogging business and I already finished Matched a week ago, I am afraid I wouldn’t be able to share all my thoughts with you.
But here is my (lame) attempt on doing my first ever book review.
*The following text contains spoilers. If you haven’t read Matched yet, stop reading this blog now.*
Matched, Matched Trilogy # 1
SynopsisIn the Society, Officials decide.
Who you love. Where you work. When you die.
Cassia has always trusted their choices. It’s hardly any price to pay for a long life, the perfect job, the ideal mate. So when her best friend appears on the Matching screen, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is the one…until she sees another face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. Now Cassia is faced with impossible choices: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s known and a path no one else has ever dared follow—between perfection and passion.
ReviewMatched captured my attention right away when I was browsing the library of our school. Who would’ve thought that that kind of story is possible? Imagine being subjected to that kind of treatment wherein the choices that you should be making were already made for you by the government.
The whole thing about the Society for me is slightly cruel but I think that this is what makes the story so interesting. They strive for the perfection of their world by doing pretty much everything. Yes, everything. Like how they poison the food, remember? Even risking the lives of the workers.
Aside from that, you don’t get to do what you want to do. You don’t get to love who you want to love. And that’s where the Matching system comes in.
Cassia being Matched to her best friend was sweet and wonderful. But of course like most stories, it does not end there. Enter Ky. The mistaken Match, the Aberration, the mysterious boy that you would want to get to know. Who doesn’t like mysterious guys anyway? I personally am rooting for Ky so I am apologizing to all those members of Team Xander ✌
“Is falling in love with someone’s story the same thing as falling in love with the person himself?”
I really loved all those bonding moments that Cassia and Ky shared together in their hiking activities. When Ky was teaching Cassia to write. The words they whispered to each other. I also loved how Ky told his life to Cassia in those drawings. They were basically falling in love.
“I’m falling in love. I am in love. And it’s not with Xander, though I do love him. I’m sure of that, as sure as I am of the fact that what I feel for Ky is something different.”
On the other hand, I admire Cassia and Xander’s friendship even after they were Matched. I also felt bad for Xander when he knew that Cassia was already falling for Kyle. But despite all of that, he remained the good and caring best friend that he is to Cassia up until the end.
Overall, Matched is a really good novel for me. Although it’s more on the conversation type and there weren’t a lot of action scenes, I think the story was really intriguing that you would definitely want to read on and know what happens next. I am really excited about what’s going to happen in the second book. I am looking forward for more sweet moments between Cassia and Ky and also with Xander since they didn’t get to have that much in the first book.
