review 1: Mignola manages to reference Dickens, Milton and Macbeth in this volume with tongue in cheek. Hellboy is also his trademark sarcastic, deadpan self which is enjoyable. Overall, the plot feels scant with Hellboy wandering through hell while meeting up with characters from his past, including his daddy. Of course, he has several daddy issues as one might expect. Nothing groundbreaking here; just MM's inimitable art style and some quippy devilry. It's a disposable but entertaining entry for the series.

... moreriticism is that there is a lot introduced with little action. I hope with the stage set in Hell a whole new cast of characters can join Hellboy so I continue to not regret my Hellboy tattoo. less
