Goodreads Summary: Cain and Abel are transferred to the battleship Sleipnir for a critical mission, and the further they venture into enemy space, the deeper their relationship becomes. As Cain struggles to make a name for himself among his new shipmates, the Commanders assign Abel to a project that may give the Alliance a decisive advantage in the war against the Colterons. The Commanders, however, may not necessarily have Abel’s best interests at heart…
Review: It’s been a while since I’ve done a review of Starfighter. I decided to start back up on these and do a webcomic review every Sunday, or at least try to. If you have been following me and have been reading the Starfighter reviews know that Starfighter is my favorite webcomic out there. I’m actually a lot further ahead than what I’m reviewing due to the series still being in progress.
Plot:
So we last left off with Cain and Abel in the their ship doing the do. This chapter starts off right after they exit their ship and Cain finds out that Abel has signed them up for transfer. The chapter begins with Cain getting pissed and you can tell he wants to punch Abel but he clearly doesn’t. So they’re transferred to the Sleipnir for a mission that Cain believes they will never come back from.
We meet new characters, even some old ones from previous chapters. Cain and Abel’s relationship starts to grow but certain characters want to break them apart. We learn that there is something going on with the Fighter General? Commander? He has something cooking up his sleeve and I believe it involves The Reliant. Do we know what it is? Well, you’re gonna have to read the further chapters to find out.
Meanwhile, Abel is trying to figure out what happened on their last mission that caused their ship to do these cool things it did. But in the meantime, things start to arise between him and Cain.
The plot is so far very strong and I love how Hamlet doesn’t bounce around to each character. It’s mainly focused on Cain and Abel and their journey to enemy territory, when she does bounce to a different character’s plot. Their plot is involved with Cain and Abel’s somehow and it doesn’t last long.
I love the solidness she gives to the plot, it just sucks you into the Starfighter universe and I love that. The world Hamlet has created for this webcomic is wonderful and she’s full of surprises, each chapter will keep you on the edge of your seat or just blow you away.
Characters:
So we all know who Cain and Abel are already. We know that they’re the Fighter and Navigator for The Reliant. The two have a relationship that they keep hidden from everyone else, some may have figured it out. But is there a reason why they’re together? I don’t know and I guess we’ll find out later on.
We’re introduced to new characters and I’m in love with the Lead Fighter and Navigator, their relationship is amazing and we do see more of them in later chapters. Their history together is amazing and their care for one another is just simply beautiful. They do interact with Cain and Abel in some way, maybe not great in the beginning for someone.
The next two characters are introduced, one is connected to Cain somehow and more about him will be revealed later on. The other, I want to say hates Abel’s guts so to speak. I can’t really confirm he does, but maybe he does, especially after later chapters. These two are pretty fishy and are up to something and we don’t know what just yet.
The character development between these characters are amazing and are so well developed that there is no room for error in them. If there is, it’s very hard to see and you probably have to squint to even notice it. The relationship these characters have with one another is amazing that they don’t even clash with the other’s personality.
There is so much to be known with these characters and the series isn’t even finished yet. I really hope we get more history about them in future chapters because I want to know about some of them and why they act the way they do.
Art:
Now, if you have been reading chapter one or at least read my review of chapter one know that in the beginning the artwork for the comic was rough and was in my opinion kind of bad. But it wasn’t bad enough for me to not read the series. Chapter two, you could see the improvement but there was still some rough patches here and there.
Chapter three, the artwork has improved a lot and it makes feel like an actual comic. The shading fits well with the improved artwork and it makes my soul sing for the neatness and the coloring. I love the hints of yellow and blue in Cain and Abel’s hair, it compliments the grey coloring so well.
The details put into this chapter is beautiful and I could just stare at it all day. I love how Hamlet just adds the details to each character’s hair, it just makes me want to reach in the computer and touch their hair because the details she added gives the hair a sort of fluffiness to them.
