review 1: The first half of this almost lost me, but the second half hooked me pretty hard. There are some annoying cliches, like the obsessive female cop and the beautiful ex-wife who's with a short, fat, ugly rich guy (seriously, why?), but we'll see what happens. I really dig the main character's vaguely Selina Kyle-esque thief protege Celia. (Okay, so, like, if Selina Kyle had a kid, were kind of batshit, and had a ton of tattoos -- oh wait, at least two of those things are true at least some of the time anyway.) I suppose you could make some Batman metaphors with the main character, Redmond, too, and their relationship. Anyway, this was a fun book, and worth the read.
review 2: Thief of Thieves is worth reading for fun but it had the potential to be more if the exec
... moreution had been better. The story is a typical "Ocean's Eleven" heist tale and if you enjoy the book on that basis alone it's great. If you want a deeper story, the frenetic pace was too fast, denying time to explore the emotional moments the authors tried to include. The story also jumps back and forth in time in a choppy manner. No sooner did the reader get oriented to the flashback then suddenly it was over. The art works well enough but didn't seem to add to the impact of the story. less
