On Friday, Scarlet Fever performed at The Spinning Top in their hometown, Stockport. This followed the release of the quartets debut single, You Really Don’t Know, which came out earlier that day. The venue was rammed with enthusiastic fans and the gig was the perfect way to kick off the bank holiday weekend.
The night was opened by Scottish band Miracle Glass Company, who set the night rolling and warmed up the room.
Scarlet Fever took to the stage in front of the eagerly anticipating crowd. They opened with their song Smokey, the track has a slightly warped tone and it undoubtedly fuelled the venue with energy. Despite being young, they have a very powerful stage presence and the whole band, especially frontman Louis, interacted well with the audience. As well as this, they have great chemistry and look like any band should – you would think they’ve been performing together for years. The group have a bold sound, incorporating strong bass lines, intense riffs and unique vocals. It works together brilliantly and I would describe it as a modern day take on rock and roll. I can see that the group takes influences from a great range of music – this pulls together amazingly to create an individual sound which is still classically Mancunian. The group continued and included tracks On The Dole and Cool Cat before performing a cover of The Beatles’ song I Want You (She’s So Heavy). The Beatles are undeniably one of my favourite bands to have ever walked the earth so I was both excited and nervous to hear how they performed the track. I can now say Scarlet Fever definitely did the song justice, they made the classic tune their own, while still keeping all the perfect aspects of the original intact.
The band then walked off stage and left the audience waiting for more. They came back with a second well known cover, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out by The Smiths, another all time favourite of mine. I could tell the band were passionate by their lively performance, this kept the crowd dancing and wanting more. They then followed this with their newly released single, You Really Don’t Know, the track has everything you could possibly want and the mood in the room was lifted further as everyone was dancing along. The show was closed with a song that anyone and everyone who could possibly enter The Spinning Top that evening would know. A final cover of David Bowie’s Moonage Daydream to end the night. The passionate performance of the track was reciprocated by the bouncing room and everyone, including the band, were having the time of their lives.
You need to keep your eye out for Scarlet Fever. You can see them at Thank Jimmy It’s Friday’s September show as well as at other venues in Manchester over the coming months. You can also keep up to date on their Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter or listen to their single here. They are a band who I’m sure you will hear much more about.
