Sea Vixen Emergency Landing

Airshows are inherently one of the most exciting events for people who have even a small amount of interest in aviation. May 27th’s Duxford Airshow in Cambridgeshire was no exception.

One of the performers was the last Sea Vixen known as Foxy Lady. After a  successful flight demonstration at the airshow, Foxy Lady’s pilot had to make a wheels up emergency landing at the Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton in Somerset .

The Sea Vixen is a classic twin-boom, twin-turbojet fighter aircraft flown from Royal Navy aircraft carriers during the 1960’s and 1970’s.

Today, Sea Vixen G-CVIX XP924 is the only flying Sea Vixen in the world. Based at RNAS Yeovilton and flying in 899 Naval Air Squadron colors from HMS Eagle. She plays a key role in the story of the evolution of the nation’s carrier aviation heritage.

Thankfully this beautiful aircraft and its very skilled pilot are safely back on the ground. I’ll try to dig up more information about the damage as it becomes available.
