review 1: Here's a dystopian story that is more original than any I've read lately. In this one, we didn't cause the disaster that the Earth has become. The "Lords" came, planted "Icons" that destroyed most humanity with a surge of electricity that stopped hearts, blew fuses, destroyed most technology. They use humans as slave labor to do their bidding. There are 4 Icon children: Sorrow (or empathy), Anger, Fear, and Love. They are humans who aren't affected by the "Icons." We see things through "Doll's" sorrowful, empathetic eyes. Yes, you guessed it! They're mission is to save the world! The plot moves them forward against all odds. There is some romance thrown in to spice it up a bit. The characters are interesting and flawed. The villains are mysterious and ruthless. ... more What's not to love?
review 2: Dol and Ro grew up in the grasslands on a mission outside the city of Los Angeles where the Icon landed. At 17, they are captured by the Embassy for reasons unknown and discover two other teens with similar markings on their wrists as their own. the come to be known as the Icon children and seem to have some kind of mysterious powers. They need to discover what is special about themselves and learn to work together before they can begin to take on the problem of shutting down the icons. less

Was curious about this series that my son is reading. It's fine, but I have no desire to read more.
