Spill Zone

By Scott Westerfeld

Ever since the spill, no one goes into the Zone. It’s way too dangerous. But then there’s Addison. She goes in and takes pictures. Sometimes of the beasts, sometimes of the meat puppets and sometimes of the flora and fauna. Those pictures help support her and her sister. She’s sick of going into the zone, but when The Collector offers her a million dollars to retrieve an artifact (from the hospital where her parents worked and died), she decides one last ride will be well worth it. But will she make it out? And at what cost.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel once I got used to the style of the narration: Lots of telling about personal history and backstory, but the pacing was plenty quick to keep me interested. Spunky protagonist, a selectively mute sis and a radioactive Coraline add interesting family dynamics.
