Things you need for a good Block Party:

1. Awesome food

2. Great Music

3. Fun games

4. A secret spot to hook up with your even-more-secret girlfriend.

Liam Edenhoff is a simple creature. He likes women, tacos, and sex. As long as he has those in his life, everything is good. He’s finally realizing maybe he’s just not cut out for relationships – surely there’s got to be a woman out there who’d be okay with roof top margaritas, casual sex, and no attachments.

Enter a new neighbor – one who is allergic to commitment and prefers her sex casual but frequent. She’s seen him at his worst and is still willing to play his games, on three conditions – discretion is a must, casual is key, and absolutely no drama. Sounds like the perfect arrangement. What could go wrong?

This book grew on me. I’ll honestly say that I wasn’t feeling in for the first few chapters. And if you’ve already the book, yes- even after THAT scene.. I wasn’t feeling it. Thankfully it grew on me and what do you know? I actually really enjoyed the book.
I will say this, Ayumi? It’s a toss up for me. I was rooting for her. why? because it’s bloody difficult to find a protagonist that’s asian in this genre of category aka contemporary romance. But My god! did she have a stick up her arse! It was so difficult for me to ‘connect’ with her. Thankfully her ice queen nature was thawed away to reveal a woman with so much passion and resilience that you can’t help but be happy for her yet feel a sense of empathy for her ‘reason’ behind the ice queen facade.

Liam, another character who I honestly didn’t know what to feel. If Ayumi is ice queen, Liam is the wind. No structure. He’s a successful business man but unluckily his personality isn’t the best. Imagine all the romance book you’ve ever read- now imagine the guy’s best friend who’s always up for “a good time, bro!”. Someone who you wont really think about because he honestly pisses you off. That is Liam. Or atleast thats how everything thinks he is. But like Ayumi, Liam too has a mask- A mask he wears that makes people think that he isn’t the insecure, overwhelmed, unappreciated person he thinks he is.

It’s so odd for me to not ‘connect’ with either of the characters but in this book. I won’t call this a slow burn romance but I will say that this book was a slow burn for me, as a reader, to fall irrevocably in love with the characters.

PS: I really hate Ayumi’s mother. may she rot in hell.

let's catch up!
