The Friday 56: Strange Weather in Tokyo

Hey guys, happy Friday, it’s almost the weekend!

The Friday 56 is a weekly blog meme hosted by Freda’s Voice. The idea is to share an excerpt from a book you’ve been reading every Friday, to promote the book or simply just to showcase your current read!

Rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader
(If you have to improvise, that’s OK.)
*Find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it)
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Linky. Add the post url, not your blog url.
*It’s that simple

This week I’m reading A Court of Wings and Ruin and Strange Weather in Tokyo, and since I used a quote from ACOWAR last week, I thought I’d choose one from Strange Weather in Tokyo this week:

I once peeled an apple for an old boyfriend. I was never much good at cooking anyway, but even if I had been, I had no particular interest in making packed lunched for him or going to his place to cook for him or inviting him over for home-cooked meals. I was always afraid that doing so would put me in a compromising position – trapped in the kitchen, so to speak. And I didn’t want him to think that he was the one who had put me there, either. It may not have mattered whether or not I found myself trapped there, but somehow I couldn’t manage to make light or it.

I’ve almost finished this book (it’s very short, only 176 pages) and I’ve really enjoyed the gentle, introspective prose and character-driven story. The mentions of Japanese food, the sakura and momiji seasons and general culture also really made me miss Japan a lot.

What are you reading at the moment? Does your book have any good quotes you want to share? Let me know in the comments!
