Hey everyone! Welcome to my review of ‘The Gatekeeper’s Sons’ by Eva Pohler, the second on my TBR list for January. This also fit in my challenges. I have decided not to group challenges, so I will have separate books for each one, however, I can have one book that fits into a challenge for Read Harder and a challenge for Popsugar. Otherwise I would have no chance at completing them both! But honestly, I haven’t got that many books that cross over.

Fifteen-year-old Therese watches her parents die. While in a coma, she meets the twin sons of Hades—Hypnos, the god of sleep, and Thanatos, the god of death. She thinks she’s manipulating a dream, not kissing the god of death and totally rocking his world.
Than makes a deal with Hades and goes as a mortal to the Upperworld to try and win Therese’s heart, but not all the gods are happy. Some give her gifts. Others try to kill her.
The deal requires Therese to avenge the death of her parents. With the help of Than’s fierce and exotic sisters, the Furies, she finds herself in an arena face to face with the murderer, and only one will survive.
So I found this book after watching a Booktuber talking about it. I’m really happy I did, because I wouldn’t have picked it up otherwise. I’m not a huge fan of the typical ‘boy meets girl’ romance which, from the description, is what this appears to be. But the way the Booktuber had described it really pulled me in.
I loved this book. Everything from the mythology to the characters to the storyline. A few traits of some characters annoy me and it does have a bit of that stereotypical ‘boy meets girl who fixes her life’ idea to it, but it fits in nicely and the story flows quite well. I was really happy when I found out that there are quite a few other books in this series and I will definitely be reading them. I’m not going to read any more in January (well, I’m going to try) because I really want to pace it out a bit, plus I’m trying to do my reading challenges.
I’ve looked into the author herself and her other books look really interesting as well, I think I’ve potentially found an author I’m going to love. I will definitely be checking out her other books.
It’s definitely a book I would recommend. I want to say ‘light reading’ because it’s quick and not too tense, but there are definitely parts in it that have you holding your breath a bit. Because the other books are relatively small, it’ll be easy for me to add them in to my monthly TBR’s. Keep an eye out for the rest of the series!
