The Prince and The Dressmaker (2018)

Author/Illustrator: Jen Wang
Publisher: First Second Books
Release Date: February 2018

Paris, at the dawn of the Modern Age.

Frances, a young seamstress is the talk of the town, all because she did what she was asked; it wasn’t her fault the dress would become the talk of the town. Now out of a job, she’s hired by someone who shares the passion and idealism that she does: to turn the world on it’s ear with beautiful dresses and fashion that Paris is just not ready for.

Sebastian loves wearing clothes; Women’s clothes to be exact. However, being a prince AND the only heir to the throne, he can’t risk his secret being discovered. So when he hires Frances as is personal seamstress and they begin combining his vision and her sewing skills, Lady Crystallia is born and introduced to the unsuspecting fashion-starved people of Paris.

Being a teenager is tough, being a teenager in the public eye is worse; but being a teenager in the public eye with a secret is pure hell. Jen Wang tell the story of Prince Sebastian and Frances  beautifully with both words and artwork. Using a mechanical pencil, pen and ink, she delivers us a heartfelt tale of secrets, coming out, rejection, pride, friendship and above all finding that support system of family and friends that stand behind you no matter what.

You can find this, and other First Second Graphic Novels, at your local or online digital book retailer.
