This book was an unexpected delight. I had never heard of either the author or the book before I picked it up at a book sale, but it ended up being a great summer read. One of my favorite things is when I can read a book and have no expectations, but walk out recommending it to everyone. This book fit that criteria.
I don’t want to give away too much of the plot, since I think everyone should read it, but the narrator is a beautiful character, and her struggles at home, school, and her new job are relatable even as they are outside of any normal kind of experience. Your heart aches for her isolation, and her reluctance to accept kindness of any kind lest it backfire.
I will admit that the romance was sort of contrived (at least to me), but even so it was a sweet story, and unlike so many romances out there in the literary world, it wasn’t completely improbable, nor did it take up too much of the plot.
Moreover, it was a book that was well written, something that so many written works out there fail to be. This is particularly interesting because (as the title suggests) there is quite a bit of gibberish spoken by several of the characters, and yet it was still delivered masterfully. Gold Stars!
AND WHAT ABOUT THE MOVIE? Alas, as of yet there is no movie. Something to look for in the future?
