Earlier this year, I wrote a post called ‘Anticipated Reads of 2017’, and I thought that, as the four books I mentioned are all out, and the end of the year is fast approaching, I’d follow-up with what I thought about them.
I really adored this book. I’ve been a huge fan of Sarah since I first read Throne of Glass, and honestly, I think the ACOTAR series might be my favourite. A Court of Wings and Ruin wasn’t quite as good as A Court of Mist and Fury – but that book was sensational, and I still completely fell in love with the final instalment. You can -actually read my proper review for it here!

This novel was actually a massive disappointment for me. I heard about it via Instagram when it was in the ARC stage, and people loved it. I read the blurb and it drew me in with it’s The Night Circus qualities, and references to magic. But let’s face it, nothing will ever be as good as The Night Circus, and for me, Caraval simply disappointed. I was so excited for this book – I pre-ordered it in hardback and everything! I have heard some people really like it, so don’t be completely put off – but if you’re looking for it to match up to The Night Circus, you will be surely disappointed. Again, you can read my full review right here.

The Great Library series is a little love of mine – it doesn’t seem to have a huge following, but I adore it with all my heart. I fell in love with Rachel Caine’s writing style at the age of 14, when I discovered Morganville, and since then I’ve followed her career. Ash and Quill is the third book of the series and, like A Court of Wings and Ruin, wasn’t quite as good as the second, but was still thoroughly enjoyable. I’m looking forward to the next book (watch out for that in my anticipated reads of 2018!) Full review here.

Another third book in a series, another that couldn’t quite match up to the second – and yet another that I still loved! Carrie Hope Fletcher introduced me to the series in a video where she raved about the ARC of The Bone Season. I kept a look out for it as soon as I heard about it, and have been in love with it ever since. The Song Rising expanded the world dramatically, and I really did enjoy every page. I can’t wait for the next book – nor can I wait for Samantha’s other book Priory of the Orange Tree. She’s definitely an author to keep an eye out for. Another review here!
So there we have it. A general success, I would say. I’m still upset about Caraval, but my love for the other books in this list more than makes up for it.
Have you read any of these books? What did you think?
