For as long as I can remember, my mother has always said, “God didn’t promise that all our days would be easy”.

I believe her.

I know it’s true.

I know all things will work together for my good in the end (Romans 8:28).

What I don’t believe is that I always have to like what’s happening. Some things are painful to go through. Some things don’t make sense. It doesn’t mean I don’t trust God. It just means I’m human and it hurts!

The other week, as I prayed to God for help in a particular situation, Thy Will Be Done by Hillary Scott came on the radio and all I could do was cry.

If you don’t know what else to say in a situation, just cry out from your heart, Thy Will Be Done!

Which means, God this hurts. I’m confused. I don’t understand. It doesn’t make sense to me right now. It doesn’t feel fair. BUT, I TRUST You enough to surrender to Your plan for my life in this situation. I TRUST You with the outcome.

Be careful! Don’t say it if you don’t mean it. His will may look completely different from your plan.

His will may not be the job you want, because He has something better. His will may be for you to endure something temporarily for the long term gain you will get from it. His will may not be the spouse you want, because He knows the spouse you need along side you to fulfill your destiny.

Another beautiful way I’ve heard it explained is, “God’s will is exactly what we would choose if we knew what God knows (Nancy Leigh DeMoss). ”

The words of this song comforted me on that day. I pray they comfort you as well. Rest in Him and trust Him with the consequences of your obedience.
