I missed a few days of Music Obsessions last week due to a respiratory infection that I’m just coming back from, so in some ways this week feels like the real start to the New Year. With that energy and enthusiasm in mind, I’m excited to dig into Today’s Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day.
Track 1 is essentially the theme of the Season 3 “Black Mirror” episode, San Junipero. I watched this episode for the first time while sick last week and was completely blown away. I’ve watched it about 5 more times since, and the impact has yet to lessen. Though “Heaven Is a Place on Earth” was never a favorite Belinda Carlisle Song of mine, it was given new meaning after the episode, and now I find myself obsessing over it (especially lyrically). Next up is my all-time favorite Bowie Song which I’ve been playing off-and-on today in celebration of the Starman’s birthday. “She Was Weird”, off of Pete Yorn’s last album, ArrangingTime is Song 3, one of my favorite Pete-Songs. Track 4 is my favorite Elvis Song, played (also) a few times today to celebrate his birthday (it’s a big day for Music Birthdays), and, last but not least, is an “Early Version” of the Fleetwood Mac Classic, “Landslide”, released last week.
