This is the first book in The Song of Shattered Sands series.

Sharakhai is the greatest city in the dessert, and is the heart of everything for it’s people; as long as they serve the twelve kings who rule the city. Immortal, powerful, and as cruel as is possible, they reign totally and completely over their people. That is until one night, a girl from the slums named Ceda dares to break the law and venture outside on the Holy night of Beht Zha’ir.

She discovers some very interesting things about the Twelve Kings, and about her ancestry, which could bring down the great city of Sharakhai crashing around her. That is, if the near God-like kings don’t discover what she is up to first.

This was the first book I have read from this author, and I am glad I picked it up. I have really enjoyed this book. The characters are realistic and well written, and the pages are soaked in magic and fantasy. It was well worth the read, and I am looking forward to starting book two.

The next book in the series is called Of Sand and Malice Made.
