Day 6 – The Bus is for Us!

After a day where Tobias spent some of his pennies buying a racing car, wheels were always going to appeal! So there was no surprise when he picked out The Bus is for Us by Michael Rosen with illustrations by Gillian Taylor.

I think it’s fair to say Michael Rosen is most famous for We’re going on a Bear Hunt, and in this story he uses the same basic idea of repetition just as effectively – Tobias even tried to join in with, “The bus is for us,” towards the end.

We liked the range of transport covered, from bikes and trains to hot-air balloons and even polar bears! Tobias enjoyed recognising some of the illustrations and decided to tell me which ones he had been on before!

The fairly simplistic language works well with the repetition here as it allows your child to recognise words and join in, which is always a fun experience when reading together! We aso liked how the illustrations were clear and instantly recognisable. A nice book that is easy to share and read together. 4/5.

As always, I asked Tobias for his favourite bit and he told me he liked, “the moon,” but thought the method of transport for getting there was wrong, informing me that he, “would like a space rocket!”
