Family faux pas: Marcie Hall, Michael DeGrotta, Josh Matheney, and Pat Casale star in Christopher Durang’s hilarious, dark comedy, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.
Most kids can’t wait to fly the coop, but some never do. Case in point: In Christopher Durang’s Tony Award-winning production of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, audiences meet Vanya and Sonia, a pair of single, middle-aged siblings who’ve spent most of their adult lives caring for their now-deceased, dementia-stricken parents at the family’s Pennsylvanian home. Hilarity and mayhem ensues when their movie star sister Masha shows up with her adorably dimwitted lover Spike in tow, to attend their neighbor’s costume party. She also informs her siblings she’s set on selling the ancestral home.
In 2012, the play premiered at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, New Jersey, and cast Sigourney Weaver as Masha, David Hyde Pierce as Vanya, Kristine Nielsen as Sonia, and Billy Magnussen as Spike.
The Delray Beach Playhouse production features Pat Casale as Masha, Michael DeGrotta as Vanya, Marcie Hall as Sonia, and Josh Matheney as Spike.
