review 1: Neat book! When I saw the cover, it reminded me of Rumpelstiltskin. Instantly, I was intrigued. The story is about a boy who spins items out of the clouds. The king sees a scarf the boy is wearing and wants one. The boy tries to convince the king that he does not need it. The king continues to wants spun items, but there are consequences. I liked the uniqueness of the story and the illustrations. The author's message is quite clear to me. My favorite part is when the boy is spinning the items out of the clouds. I would definitely recommend this book and could even be used during a weather unit. The book could be used in the classroom when focusing on predictions and illustrations. Some grade levels could read the book on their own as well.
review 2: A young boy
... more has the ability to spin clouds into wonderfully shimmering cloth just as his mother taught him. But he makes only two scarves, one for his head and one for his neck; his mother taught him to spin only what is necessary. Of course the king discovers his skill and demands that the boy create clothes for his entire family and the boy complies. The clouds gradually disappear, no rain falls, and the kingdom suffers. The princess returns the cloth to the boy, the clouds are restored and the rain starts to fall again. The illustrations in this eco-tale do double duty: the clouds take on various shapes and the landscapes mimic faces. Young readers will easily grasp the lessons of stewardship and reducing consumption in this gentle cautionary tale. less

Beautifully illustrated folktale teaches the value of "enough" and the danger of excess.

was it real, asks my Laurel. It is a fantasy story about having too much of something.

This feels like a fairy tale and I loved the jacket flap. I love books by teachers!
