BBC Gardeners World Live & BBC Good Food Show Summer at the NEC

Long running BBC show Gardeners World turns 50 this year. Today I got to see the BBC Gardeners World Live show come to life at The NEC on the edge of Birmingham, The four-day event is combined with BBC Good Food Show Summer and is on until Sunday 18th June.

I’ve not watched BBC Gardeners World for several years as I’ve never actually had my own garden until very recently. I found myself walking through expertly created exhibits both indoor and outdoors at The NEC. One of the team I spoke to said they had been working on the project for almost two weeks on site. So I can’t imagine how much preparation it takes into creating this huge event.

There are plants to get the attention of the most expert gardeners and I can see this show running for another 50 years based on the passion of those attending.

I was given tickets to the Super Theatre the first of which gave me a great view of TV royalty Alan Titchmarsh and Mary Berry who worked together on a cooking demonstration. Mary directed obviously and a very cheeky cameraman nearly got his hand smacked as he offered his own brand of help.

The BBC Good Food Show Summer is held across the remaining half of this very large event space, I’ve been to the BBC Good Food Show Winter before which covers the same main halls. From cheese, to chocolate, to wine and specialist spirits there is lots to sample.

I chatted to the Gourmet Chocolate Pizza Company about their latest chocolate pizza which is dairy-free, gluten-free and suitable for vegans.

I then spoke to Gower Cottage about their very tasty chocolate brownies. Seeing how far people are prepared to travel to come to demonstrate their products at the edge of Birmingham always impresses me.

Later in the afternoon I returned to the Super Theatre to see Nadiya Hussain, the sixth winner of BBC’s Great British Bake Off. Nadia is passionate about food, writing and empowering others. Seeing live cookery demonstrations make me want to rush out and make my own food.

Maybe I’ll blog about it here.

I was invited to BBC Good Food Show Summer and BBC Gardeners World Live by the organisers and this is not a sponsored post. These are my own views.
