review 1: Rating 3.5 starsI was really torn between 3 and 4 stars for this. The writing was sometimes stilted and felt awkward, and it was brief, but this shifter story had some elements that are different from the usual so that was interesting. Beowulf is THE Beowulf of legend, now well over 1000 years old, and he at long last has found his mate, scenting her as she comes into the bar he owns. Roxie is mortal though, something extremely unusual as a wolf's mate in this world. Of course, things are exactly as they seem, and some magical plot twists add interest to an otherwise routine shifter story of finding a mate. Those twists elevated it from the "average" 3 stars to 3.5, so kudos to the author for that interest. This is a good light paranormal romance read and start to a ... morenew series, nothing massively memorable but certainly nothing awful about it either.
review 2: 2.3 stars. Wow, so sex and shapeshifters, not much else to this story except stupidity. I couldn't believe how dumb they acted and it was accepted. Like Beowulf telling Roxie you will do what I tell you to do to keep you safe right after she just got person napped under his care and she had to rescue herself?!? Why didn't he have other pack mates watching over her when he knew she was in danger?!? Then he just gave her up?!? Then he went to the fight knowing it was to the death, but he was just going to let him go and keep Roxie in danger, what was the point?!? He also knew he would cheat and bring people with him, but he still went alone?!? No wonder their kind has been dying out - they need smarter leadership! less
